2nd day of individuals

Dear readers

The players have been busy and doing their best.

In the boys plate:

Theodore progressed to the 3rd round before losing to Rio Augustino in 2 sets. Rupert plays in the semis tomorrow.

Girls Plate:

Alicia is through to the semis. Katie is out after losing to J Chin.

XD plate:  Marcus and Alicia are out after losing to Ang and Zhu. Louise and her partner also lost to Ang and Zhu.  That leaves  Ryan and Daphne to fight in the semis.

In the BD plate: Rupert and Theodore lost to Gay and Hocking. There's no more boys from WA in the plate.

In the Girls D plate things are getting interesting. The twins play against Katrina and Daphne tomorrow. Who to cheer for ? Louise and Jessica are playing Phang and Sak. I thought Louise has gone home?

In the boys singles event: Ryan lost to E Zhang in the 3rd round. KC will now meet E Zhang tomorrow. Sunyee upset Mialian's plans by beating him in 3 sets. Sunyee progresses to the semis. Jason Lee also goes to the semis after beating Marcus Loi. That means WA has 3 boys in the semis.

In the girls singles: Katrina has finished her run losing to M Almazan in 3 sets.

 Bella continues her run beating A Young in 2 sets. That means WA only has 1 girl left.

XD results: KC and Bella continue their run and re in the semis after beating  Augustino and Almazan in 2 sets. Romy and Jasmine are out after losing to B Lim and V Wu in 2 sets. Milain and his partner are also out after losing to J Trinh and C Lee in 2 sets. That means only Bella and KC remain in the draw.

In the BD: Milain and KC continue their run to the semis beating  B Lim and S Zheng in 2 easy sets.

Sunyee and Jason also progressed to the semis after beating D Chen and K Chesney.

WA therefore has 2 boys teams in the semis. Good luck to them.

Girls D: Bella progresses to the semi with S Lim after beating Almazan and A Lowe in 2 easy sets.

Bella has the chance of getting a triple crown if her fitness keeps up. Likewise KC.

Start of the individual events

Dear readers

The individual events have started.

Ryan Tan has done well progressing to the 3rd round after beating Ryan Chan in 3 sets. Kai Chen has beaten Alex Zhang to progress to the 3rd round tomorrow to play against Simon Zheng.

Damien Wan had to go to the plate after losing to Simon Zheng. Marcus beat F Buckley in 2 sets to progress to the 2nd round but was beaten in 2 sets by Jonathan Wong. Theodore Kang lost in 2 sets to Jason Trinh and will also go to the plate.

SunYee beat Brendan Lim in 3 sets before beating Irwin Ong in 2 sets to get to the 3rd round. Milain had an easy 2 sets against J Kellett before beating Arrick Ang so as to get to the 3rd round.

Romy is in the plate after losing to R Nalzaro. Jason Lee beat Dylan Chan in 2 sets and then progressed to the 3rd round after beating P Souksat in 2 sets again.

Rupert lost in 2 sets to L Chun to go to the plate.

Damien could not progress in the plate losing to F Buckley. Likewise Romy lost to Huynh in the plate.


In the girls singles, Daphne lost to Carmen Lim in 3 sets and heads to the plate. Likewise Alicia is in the plate after losing to A Arronsiri.

Bernice beat C Yap in 2 sets before losing to S Lim. Katie also heads to the plate after losing to T Gray.  Jasmine beat J Tee before losing to Amy Young.

Bella beat M Zhao in 2 sets and meet Amy Young tomorrow.   L Bradford lost to S Chung and also goes to the plate. Janice won against K Yang before losing to A Yu in 2 sets.

Katrina beat J Chin in 2 sets before a fight in 3 sets against E Perry before progressing to the 3rd round. Louise and Daphne have progressed to the next round in the plate.

In the boys doubles:

Damien and Jackie have gone to the plate. Ryan and Romy progress to the next round after beating Ryan Chan and T Mui in 2 sets.

Milain and KC had a bye. Jason and Sunyee beat L Chun and T Xie in 2 sets to progress to the next stage. Rupert and Theodore also had a bye and will pay their first game tomorrow.

In the girls doubles:

Katrina and Daphne have gone to the plate losing to A Aroonsiri and E Bradwell.

Likewise Alicia and her partner J Zhu go to the plate. Louise and her partner J Zhang have also gone to the plate. Bella has partnered Sasha Lim  and they get a bye. The twins also go to the plate after losing to C Smith and E Smith.

In the mixed doubles, KC and Bella are seeded 1. They easily beat K Chesney and E Perry to go to the 3rd round.

Romy and Jasmine have beaten D Lee and K Billington to progress to the next round.

Alicia and her partner Marcus Chan have also gone to the plate.  Likewise Louise andher partner L Zhou.

Theodore and parther E Viravong have also gone to the plate. The same for Katie and her partner J Huynh.

Damien and Janice have also gone to the plate. Milain and Katrina had a bye.

Ryan and Daphne lost to Sunyee and his partner C Lim.

Looks like most of the young players from the Scorpions are either out or in the plate event.

We get silver for 2016

Dear readers

The Silver team

WA has won a historical silver medal in the 2016 June Bevan Tournament. That is a great result by any means.

The players have worked very hard and given everything to get this silver medal.

The final score was 5/11. The WASPs did better in their first match against NSW 1. Injuries are setting in and we have to hope for the best in the individuals.

Yuli and Kay should be very proud of their young charges. A few of them can still play in the Under 17s next year. I think that includes our new girl Katrina Garing. This is her first state team and she has been a lucky star for WA badminton.

It looks like the High Performance Training squad scheme is reaping results. It used to be that state team players will only train together for a few months before competing as a team. Now with the High Performance Training under the management of Annie Sim, the players have a consistent level of training for an extended period of time. This I think has made the difference in the team performance. Thanks to BAWA's foresight.

The young Scorpions team finished their competition as the 9th team after beating Geraldton 16/0. They should be applauded for giving everything they had on the court against much older opponents.

I heard that the young Scorpions asked to thank BAWA , their coach, manager and parents on the public stage. Their team existence was based on a push by several including Annie to have a 2nd team to give the young players exposure. It was good for the young players to acknowledge the support of all their supporters.

Now the players have to have a short rest before they compete in the individual events.
