Dear readers
After a good lunch, the players were ready to meet against Vic 2.
Historically Vic 2 has usually beaten WA in close games. We have even lost just because of points when the matches were even.
This Vic 2 team comprises of some of the players that lost the historical Under 15s match to WA giving WA Under 15s the gold/silver medal draw. Of course the Under 15s last year only managed silver.
Therefore, winning this next game is crucial for the team to stay in the medal hunt.
Alex and Julia gave the team a booster with their first win against C Chen and C Chen at 21/13 and 21/16.
However, Amos and Edward lost a tense 3 setter against David Kang and Calvin Ching. The score was 14/21, 21/18 and 21/14. This was going to be a hard fight for WA and is typical of the times the 2 teams have met.
Phing and Silvi had a close 3 setter before winning L Rigg and Tylah Brun at 16/21, 21/13 and finally 21/8.
WA is now 2/1 up.
Titus and Tyz next played E Yam and J Schueler. WA was confident and got the game at 21/18 and 21/13. We are now 3/1 up and looking good.
Chloe Chen played Julia next. Julia got the first set at 21/19 but floundered on the 2nd at 21/7.
She lost the 3rd set at 21/14 but should be proud.
Edward then won against Calvin 21/16 and 21/12 giving WA a 4/2 lead.
Silvi then tried to give WA a further lead but was unable to win the first set which went to 25/23. It was so close. I am sure Irma and John must ave been stressed out watching them. Silvi lost the 2nd set at 7/21 giving Vic a catchup situation of 3/4 with WA only leading by 1.
Did I not say this will be a close match!
The captain then got to the court against D Kang. Titus had a shaky 21/18 win in the first but finished strongly at 21/11.
WA is now leading at 5/3.
Alex then had her game against Tylah Brun. Alex lost the first set at 21/14. She fought back at 22/24. The final set was a nail biter but Alex finally lost at 24/22. The girl has given everything for WA and everyone especially her parents should be proud.
I am only trying to review the games base don the score. I am sure if I was there, I would have been shouting and supporting Alex for every point.
WA is now leading 5/4 which is very tight.
Anything can happen. It may go down to the mixed doubles to decide the winner.
Tyz then played Earnest Yam.Tyz beat Earnest in the Under 15s and it would be interesting to see how much he has improved. The first set was won by Tyz at 21/19. Tyz continued to focus and got the 2nd set at 21/17. WA is now leading at 6/4.
We need at least 9 matches to progress to the next stage of the medal draw.
The game is still very close. Phing then got another point for WA by winning in 2 comfortable sets against L Rigg.
Amos then got to court side to prepare against J Schuler. Amos lost the first set at 17/21. Apparently Schuler has improved substantially since the Under 15s. Amos had to dig deep and finally got the 2nd set at 24/22. This must be giving his mum and coach Yuli a scare. Amos got to the 3rd set and finally win a comfortable 21/12 to the relief of the team. I called his mum Touk Krei after the game to make sure the score was not because of any injury. Touk Krei told me that Amos was told by Yuli to relax and just enjoy the game which he did with the right result.
WA is now leading at 8/4.
We needed to confirm the win with the next match. WA's new state players KJ Teoh and Julia were next against P Audley and Samantha Lee. Although they are playing as the 4th seed Mixed doubles, the onus lies heavily on their shoulders as a win by them will secure WA's win. They do not fail toprove themselves for WA and win at 21/19 and 21/18. This must have been a close fight.
KJ and Julia have brought WA across the line. Good on them.
Edward and Silvi lost the next set against D Kang and C Chen at 21/14 and 21/15.
Titus and Phing then had a no pressure game against J Schueler and T Bruhn. They won at 21/9 and 22/20.
WA had won and Vic decided to concede a walkover so that Tyz and Alex did not have to play against E Yam and L Rigg.
WA has won Vic 2 by 11/5.
What a close fight. That is why all the players need to understand that each of them has to play a part in the state team. All the players have done so with great courage.
Congrats Yuli, Kay and Annie. They now have to find out who they are playing next as they draw closer to the medal round and remain in the hunt.
I was following the games closely even though I was playing golf with Jazton at WA Golf Club in Yokine.
I believe WA will play NSW 2 tomorrow. If they win NSW 2, they will definitely be in the medal fight. WA also play Northern NZ on Tuesday. I think that means that if WA wins NSW 2, they will play Northern NZ for gold. Go WA. This is exactly the position that WA needs to be at. Keep your fingers crossed that they will make history again.

Hi Ray
The team
did very well against Tasmania. Both manager Kay and Coach Yuli were very
pleased with their performance. Not only because we had a good win but
also because they said that the team was very focused on their matches, they
supported their team mates when they were playing.
The results
are already on tournament software.
Got to go .
Annie
