Dear
readers,
Many of
you parents must be starved of information regarding what is happening in
Victoria. I can only give you 2nd hand news. These are news text to me or
emailed to me from my ears and eyes in Victoria.
First a
2nd hand comment from Sok Teoh:
Sok Teoh has left a new comment on your
post "The players arrive at
Victoria":

"HI Ray
This morning, as we were driving through the compound to go to the
badminton stadium, I remarked to the children in my car that there
was a man that looked like John. Silva then squealed and said,
‘That’s my dad!!!’ She ran out of the car and hugged her dad and then we
saw Irma running from her cabin in her pyjamas. It was a nice reunion and a
very nice surprise for Silvi. She was on the phone earlier to her mum
wishing her good morning and she had absolutely no idea that her parents were
in Altona.
Irma and john will be here until Monday. I think Irma and John are
on a mini honeymoon….they have nice slow dinners every night . Go Irma
and John… However, they were courtside today whilst the team were
training.
After the t raining session at the stadium, the team took some time off
to relax poolside. We then left for the welcome dinner at
‘Seaworks’. I was told that it was a boat builders ( big big )
shed. (It was really dusty and the photographers were not happy that
their white backdrop and floor were getting really grubby with foot prints all
over it.)
We had the Team officials meeting and then the Team photos were
taken. Unfortunately there was no Group Photo.
And Ray, you thought the Under 15s group photo was bad because we
were just bunched up together. Well, at least there was a photo.
We waited a long time for our dinner. Fortunately Kanny (Lai) was
there and she gave us some chocolate eggs for Easter. We had them for
entrée. It was a short opening ceremony, no pomp or ceremony. There
were not enough chairs and they had to find another table and apparently there
were also not enough food. We were waiting for our turn but we
decided that we had better go get the food before it was gone. The
general consensus was that the food was terrible. Sigh, we have to go
back there for the Goodbye dinner, it will be the same food no doubt.
Again, it just makes me appreciative of how BAWA organizes our events……
always so well prepared and presented.
When we came back to the accommodation, we had a short team meeting and
Kay sent all of them to bed. The boys and girls were really tired due to
the time difference.
Tomorrow morning we have shopping to do, meals to prepare.
We play Tassie tomorrow, our first game. We should beat them easily
unless they have improved tremendously since last year.
Good night.
PS I have some photos but it is on the I pad – I need to ask the kids
how to send it. You know how technologically challenged I am."
Comment
from Annie:
"We
have a bye this morning.
I did the
shopping , the kids did some light training within the grounds. Kay and the
kids did laundry while the mums cooked dinner.
We are having spaghetti bolognese for dinner.
Lunch was
chicken rolls which the kids helped make.
We are
now warming up for our game with Tassie.
I sent you the playlist earlier.
Please
call Kay for updates as the kids are not allowed to turn on their phones.
I will
send some photos soon."
Well,
despite not knowing what was happening in Victoria, we did manage to get some
updates.
Sok Teoh
was updating me on the scores while I was golfing at the Cut, Mandurah with my
son Jazton. Yes, I have nothing to do but golf for the whole Easter weekend as
my wife and other son are in Victoria. Poor me.
Tomorrow
I play at Yokine Country Club. I had a corporate tournament at Joondalup on
Friday.
Back
to the badminton.
The
scores are as follows:
Western Australia - Tasmania: 16-0
Time: | Sat 3/30/2013 3:00 PM |
---|---|
Draw: | June Bevan Trophy - Stage 1 - Group D |
Score: | 16-0 |
Points | Won | Draws | Lost | Matches | Games | Points | |||||||
Western Australia | 2 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 16 | - | 0 | 32 | - | 0 | 672 | - | 245 |
Tasmania | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | - | 16 | 0 | - | 32 | 245 | - | 672 |
It was a clean sweep by the WA team. It was good to see the new State players win their first National matches.
Congrats to Serena, Julia and Kai Jie for their first win at National level. Tomorrow will see a tougher challenge for them and I am sure they will rise to the challenge.
The team plays New Caledonia next. They should perform well. It still brings me to the first match that the Tans witnessed when the boys entered their first national competition in the Under 15s in 2010. The first team they played against was NSW Thunder followed by Vic 1 losing at 16/0 and 13/3 respectively. Morale was totally shattered.
So in comparison, this is a great start especially for the new players.
I called Yuli to congratulate her on the team's first win. She laughed and said, winning at the end is more important. Good luck guys.
