NSW 2 v WA

Dear friends

Sorry about the delayed telecast. Computer net issues.

The 2 doubles are at 3 sets.

Both Tyz and Titus lost the first but got the 2nd back. Similarly for Shelby and Silvi.

The score for T and T is 7-4 on the 3rd set. S and S are at 3-4.

They get to 11/7. They need to hang on. Every game is important.

The girls are at 5/5.

They may still have a medal chance.

This is Titus first doubles and he is a bit tentative but improving.

S and S are neck to neck with NSW 2.

T and T are at 14/11.  S and S are still at 8/8. They need to break away.

T and T are at 17/13. Hang on , hang on.

They need 3 more pts.

This is nerve wrecking.

 NSW serves into the net.

They are at 20. One more pt.  Titus serves out and then redeems himself by getting the winner.

The girls are at 11/12. Still cannot break away.

Its 13/14 now.

Now 14/15. They need to clear away. They get the lead at 18/17.  Then lose 2 pts.

It is now 19/19. Shelby needs to stay calm. Silvi hits a winning pt but loses the next one.

They finally lose at 22-20. What a waste.

Is this going to be a repeat of Vic 2?

Jaz is next with Amos.  Alex is with Phing.

I know some parents are watching this on line and following every step. But bear with me as I have a battery life of 2 hrs and there are no power outlets. My last attempt to use the ipad caused an info loss.

We are now 1/1.

This is the first time Amos is partnering Jaz in the comp.

Amos has to concentrate.

The girls are at 1/3.

The boys are at 6/4. Jaz and Amos get to 11/7. Now they are even at 12/12. They get to 15/12.  Now at 18/15. The boys are at 20/17. They lose 2 pts and are now down 20/21.  They lost the game at 22/20.

Phing hits a good cross court to get a pt. They are now at 5/6.  They just lost 4 pts in a row before getting one back. Phing smashed to get the team back to 14/14. The girls are at 20/18. They just lost a pt. They lost another pt.

Now they are down 1 pt. They get back to deuce. Alex does a good drop and the return drop goes out. Alex hits a winner for the 1st set at 23/21.

The boys are up  5/3 but there is uncertainty.  They are at 7/4.  Now 9/7. They reach 11/8 and there is a switch over. It is 12/12 now. Jaz has a chance but hits the net. Suddenly they are at 13/14. Now 13/17.
Now 15/19. Can they get it back? No Amos hits it out at 21/17.

The girls are at 6/2. Now 9/3.  They reach 11/6. The girls are doing better at 18/12.  They just lost 2 pts but get one back from a bad serve. They need 2 more pts. Yes, 1 more pt. NSW 2 hits out and we win the match. But Alex thought the game was still on. She must be so focussed that she does not think about the score at all.

It is again 2/2. I think we will be here till 10 pm again.
Phing against Nicole Min.

Phing and Amos v Austin and Min

Jaz and Alex.

Tyz is playing his first singles.

He smashes to get 2 pts. he looks focused.  It is now 4/4. They seem evenly matched.  Suddenly he is down 5/9. NSW gets to 11/7 first.  Its is now 8/12. He gets back a pt.  Its is now 9/14. He needs to be patient. He reduces the deficit to 5 then hits out again. He does a good cross to get another pt. He dives and gets it back and dives again but he hits the net.

It is now 13/18. He is pumped. He gets 2 pts in a row to 15/18.

Silvi is down 5/11.

The NSW boy is playing for time as he has lost 2 pts. Tyz gets to 16/19. He loses the set after hitting the net.

Silvi is recovering slightly at 8/17 but loses at 21/8.

Tyz is drawn at 3/3 but takes a lead.  He is now up 7/3. He gets to 8/3.  He does a fake jump smashes and drops for a pt.

He gets to 11/5 after NSW serves into the net.

Silvi is leading the 2nd set at 7/3. She gets to 11/9.

He does a drop and gets to 15/7.  He is now at 18/7.  He gets to 21/9 for a 3 setter.

Silvi is up 15/9. She gets to 17/9.  Silvi is at 20/18.  She gets a 3 setter after 21/18. However she could not capitalise as she suffered an asthma attack and lost 21/4.

The 2nd set for Tyz is drawn at 4/4.

They are trading blows.  He just lost 2 pts. He gets 2 pts back with a nice drop.

He gets his trade mark cross drop from the far end in for once to get to 11/10.

It is now 11/11. This is a heart burner.

It is 12/12.  This is any one's game.  Tyz is down 14/12. He is still 2 pts down.

He dives to save a pt and NSW hits out.

It is back to 15/15. He takes the lead.  He does a cross drop for another pt. He gets to 18/15. He smashes for a return out by NSW and then does a net drop for another pt. He gets the game when NSW hits into the net.

Jaz is at 11/8.

I have 39 mins of life left. He is now at 14/16.

He gets 1 pt back but loses it again.

It is now 17/19.  He loses at 21/17. He needs to fight back strongly.

He is trailing 8/5 now and now 10/6.  NSW gets to 11/6.  He is down 7/14.  He drags it back to 13/16.

He does a cross drop to get another pt. He cuts down the deficit to 1 pt. They are now drawn at 17/17.

They get to 19/19 and then a deuce.  It is back to a deuce at 21/21. He gets another pt. But they deuce again.

They deuce yet again at 23/23.

They deuce again at 24/24.  NSW gets another pt.  Jaz hits the shuttle out for a heart breaking loss. He tried his best at 26/24. He gave his all.

I just found out Alex won in 2 sets. She is a star. She won 23/21 and 21/17. I was too engrossed with Jaz's game to see Alex play but I know she did us proud.

Edmund then plays William Liang. Ed loses the first set 5/21. He then comes alive and win the 2nd at 21/18 getting a 3 setter. However, he could not win the 3rd set and could only get 18 pts.

Shelby is next and she wins the first set easily with her long legs stretching to get all the drops. She gets 21/18 She gets to 20/12 before losinjg 4 pts in a row. She finally finished the game at 21/16. She has been a great team player.

Phing had no trouble winning Nicole Min at 21/7 and 21/12 as Nicole gave up the fight half way thru the game.I was wondering if they had lost thier fir.

Amos Yi then played J Sha. Amos seemed to be dreaming as he lost 14/21 and then 15/21. This was so different from his morning game when I said he played beautifully.

Titus and Silvi then went on. This is their first mixed doubles together in this comp tho they play at Duncraig Club. They won the first 21/12 but proceeded to lose the 2nd at 16/21. This was becoming crucial. Luckily the 2 players shored up their strength and finished the match at 21/19 after losing 4 pts in a row.

It was then Tyz and Shelby again. Their partnershiphas been strong to date. They lose the first set at 12/21. They turn it around at 21/14.  The 3rd set was so close with deuces all the way till Tyz and Shelby finished at 24/22.

Jaz and Alex was next. This is their first game together in this comp.

It  was next up to Jaz and Alex to get us  to a stronger win. The won the first set 21/18. The 2nd was bad and they lost 14/21.  They played better at the 3rd set to get to 21/16. This brought us to a definite win.

It was then Phing and Edmund's turn. A win by them will complete the victory. However, it was not to be as they went down 12/21 and 20/22

We now play South Australia for 5th or 6th place. If we had won 1 more game against Vic 2, we could have been playing for a medal chance. There were 3 close games that could have been won but it was not to be.

So, we have to be content with fighting for 5th place. Kay said the kids had played well above expectation. We wil be playing for 5th out of  13 teams.

I am so sorry to the parents that my battery life is only 2 hrs. I have not been able to access the blog on my ipad. So they have to contend with the final update after my dinner and shower while I am having a glass of wine. Till tomorrow, good night. We play at 5 pm so no breakfast will be served tomorrow by the parents.
