The team hug |
The game has changed today as the coach has decided to swop
the 2 Tan brothers. Tyz is playing with Edmund in the 2nd doubles.
Jaz is playing with Amos.
Victoria Demons, their second team look eager to proceed
with the fight for a medal. This game will prove vital if we are to have a medal
chance.
Edmund and Tyz were trailing 18-15 against Eddie Luk and Jonathan Zhu but came back at 18-18. They then had a tussle but lost it at 21-19. They need to pull out a 3 setter. They just got to 11-4 in the 2nd set. The boys have to buckle down and win this set. The Vics have moved up to 12-14. The Vics drew equal. After some heart stopping action, WA got to 21-15. They need to remain focused. They got to 11-4 again in the 3rd set. They are at 16-6 now. Keep going. They are at 20-10 now. Tyz just smashed into the net. He finally smashed one down the middle to get the team across.
Shelby and Alex have also lost the first set at 21-10. The 2nd set is closer at 10-15. They still lost unfortunately at 21-13.
Phing and Silvi are also doing well getting to 11-9. However they lost concentration after getting to 20 first. They eventually lost the first set at 24-22. They then managed to get a set back at 21-17. The 3rd set is at 11-7 to WA. Can the girls do it? They are now at 15-9. It's 17-10 now. The girls need to get this game for us to stay even. Vic just smashed into the net to give us 20-13. The girls won 21-13. Well done.
Jaz and Amos are now playing. This is going to be a strong fight. They lost the first set. The boys are going point for point. Vic got to 11-9. WA has to win this set. They are now trailing 16-20. We lost at 16-21. We lost the 2nd set at 21-16 again.
I have just had a video camera malfunction after purposely buying a tripod today.
Titus is playing his singles against Eric. He just lost the first set at 21-10. He needs to analyse his opponent quickly. He is leading at 14-7. Vic has now caught up to 16-17. He managed to get to 21-17 after Vic hit the ceiling. This kid is supposed to be a genius at school. His thought process must be going at full speed to see how he can win this game. He has gotten to 11-4 on the 3rd set. I just had a look at the umpire's card and it was 14-14???? It was a mistake. It is 15-6 to Titus. The kid can do it. The Vic player seems to have given up. Titus finally won at 21-9. He has a big heart despite his height as I have always said. Shaun Mathew's dad was very gracious in commenting to Titus that he played a good game. He was also kind enough to give me a copy of the doubles game. That's what parents should do for each other in support of their kids.
Alex is trailing 11-6. She has caught up to 13-14. They are now at 19-19. Alex lost the first set 22-20. She can come back. Alex is giving everything she has. She has gotten to 11-6. She is now at 15-8. She won the 2nd set giving us a good chance. Vic got to 11-9. The score is now 12-12. The score is now 13-13 going blow for blow with the teams shouting them on. Alex has to believe in herself. She is at 16-18 but still fighting. Its is 18-18 after a long rally. It is 19-19 now. She got to 20-20 from behind. She got back to 21-21. She then got 23-21. The team and parents are hoarse from screaming. Her parents will be so proud of her. The power of cheering is working.
This is getting nerve wrecking.
Silvi is trailing at 11-4 in her first set. She lost the first set and is trailing again at the 2nd and has lost 21-9.
Jaz is up next against Mitchell Gervasoni. He has to bring us closer to a win. He is leading at 11-6. The Vic player caught up to 18-18. It is now 19-19. He is now down 20-19. It is back to 20-20. He lost at 22-20. He has to dig harder.
He is at 18-9 and moving Vic around. He got to 21-9. The 3rd set looks tougher. They are going point for point. WA got to 11-10. I hope my battery lasts. Vic is at 15-14. Vic is at 20-17. Jaz lost at 21-18. It was a tough fight. Jaz gave his all and I am proud even though he lost.
Shelby is at 11-8 against Lily Rigg. She is now at 19-14. She got the game at 21-17. She is trailing in the 2nd set at 11-8. She lost the 2nd set at 21-15. This is another blow for blow game. The 3rd set was lost by Shelby after a tough fight to 21-19.
Jonathan beat Edmund 21-15 and 21-13. Phing was her usual confident self when she beat Janice Au 21-12 and 21-9.
Amos had another 3 setter against Shaun Matthews winning at 15-21, 21-18 and 21-18. It was another very tight game and his father was totally stressed out.
Tyz and Shelby then played Eric Qi and Tylah Brunh. The first set was lost by Tyz and Shelby 21-18. They won the next at 21-16. The last game was so slosely fought I lost my voice. Tyz and Shelby finally went down 22-20 although they got to 20 first. They were visibly upset at losing.
It was down to Jaz and Silvi and Edmund and Phing to bring the team across.
Jaz and Silvi won their first set at 21-12. However they lost the 2nd set at 21-18. The last set was finally won at 21-17 by Jaz and Silvi. This got the team closer to a win.
Edmund and Phing had another 3 setter. They lost the first at 21-15. They changed the game plan at the 2nd set and won 21-17. The last set was won at 21-16 bringing the team to a lead.
It was now up to Amos and Alex to get the team a win. The first set was won by Matthew and Rigg at 21-15. Amos and Alex fought back strongly and got to 21-17. We had to win this game and Alex and Amos tried all they could. They finally went down 21-16.
That was the end of the medal possibility. We could have been playing for 3rd or 4th place. Now we are trying for a 5th and 6th place tomorrow.

The whole WA team supporting Amos and Alex at the last game |
The kids are so deflated. The parents are still proud of how the kids played. I am proud of all of them. There are so many what ifs. However, they need to bring their spirits up again tomorrow to continue their battle. They have all done their best.
At the end it was 8 games to 8 between the team. However, we lost by 3 sets. Amazingly the points were the same.
All these 3 setters are really stressful. Yu Li is a great coach as she was able to play the right combination to get us the best chance of a victory. However , it was not to be.
Yu Li said these matches were more stressful and emotional than her World Games. We were the last team there and we finished at 10 pm.
Let's hope tomorrow is easier.
